As I sit down to write this introductory blog post, I am filled with a sense of excitement and anticipation for the journey that lies ahead. My name is Casey, and I am thrilled to welcome you to "Casey’s Coastal Connection," a lifestyle blog chronicling my transition from the city life of the Chicago suburbs to the tranquil shores of Cozumel, Mexico. In my late sixties, I found myself embarking on a new chapter filled with endless possibilities, adventures, and opportunities for growth.

The decision to leave behind the familiar comforts of home and relocate to Cozumel was not one that I made lightly. After spending decades in fast paced city living, I felt a deep longing for change – a desire to connect with the sea, to cultivate a greater sense of mindfulness, and to embrace a more active and vibrant way of life.

And so, with a leap of faith and a heart full of dreams, I made the bold decision to pack up my belongings and set off for Cozumel, a small island nestled in the majestic waters of the Caribbean Sea. Little did I know that this decision would not only transform my surroundings but also fundamentally reshape my outlook on life.

"Casey’s Coastal Connection" is more than just a blog – it is a platform for exploration, inspiration, and connection. It is a space where I hope to share the joys, challenges, and lessons learned along the way as I navigate this new chapter of my life. But more importantly, it is an invitation for you to join me on this journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

The theme of "Rewiring and Re-firing" lies at the heart of "Casey’s Coastal Connection." As I entered my late sixties, I was keenly aware of the expectations and stereotypes that often accompany this stage of life. But rather than allowing myself to be confined by these limitations, I choose to embrace the notion that age is merely a number – rather than a measure of potential.

In Cozumel, I have discovered a newfound sense of freedom and possibility – a place where the boundaries between past and present, young and old, blur into insignificance. Here, surrounded by the natural beauty of the island, wonderful friends and the vibrant energy of its people, I am reminded of the boundless potential that lies within each of us, regardless of age or circumstance.

Central to my journey of rewiring and re-firing is a commitment to living an active and healthy lifestyle. From morning walks along the Malecon to yoga sessions beneath the palm trees at Corpus Christi Park, I have embraced the opportunity to nourish my body, mind, and soul in ways that I never thought possible. Through scuba diving, meditation, and yoga, I have discovered a newfound sense of vitality and inner peace that continues to sustain me on this journey.

Perhaps the most transformative aspect of my life in Cozumel has been my deep connection with the ocean. As an avid scuba diver, I have had the privilege of exploring the breathtaking coral reefs that surround the island, experiencing the walls of Palancar Gardens and Caves and the vibrant colors and diverse marine life of Yucab and Punta Tunich. Yet, even as I embrace the beauty of the underwater world, I am very aware of the threats facing our oceans – from climate change to pollution and local challenges.

It is this awareness that has inspired me to become actively involved in coral reef restoration efforts on the island including Zoe, A Living Sea Sculpture and The Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Project. Through volunteering, I have had the opportunity to contribute to the preservation and restoration of these fragile ecosystems, working alongside passionate professionals and volunteers who share my commitment to protecting this natural world for future generations.

As I embark on this new chapter of my life, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to share my journey with you.
